Experience the Bay of Fundy Sample Itineraries
Spend the day in the only city on the Bay of Fundy! Start your morning with a brisk walk along Harbour Passage, a waterfront, cranberry-coloured series of trails, lookouts, ecological hubs and heritage sites connecting Reversing Rapids to the uptown. Make sure you stop at the Reversing Rapids lookout to witness the world’s highest tides collide with the mighty St. John River. At high-tide the river actually reverses in the face of this unstoppable natural power. Enjoy harbour sightseeing tours or zipline across this amazing phenomenon if you are looking for an adrenalin rush.
Enjoy a Bay of Fundy lobster roll in the Saint John City Market for lunch before heading to the New Brunswick Museum where whale sighting are guaranteed in the Hall of Great Whales. Visit Delilah, a full-size replica of a right whale, and enjoy the Industry Gallery to learn more about the region’s shipbuilding history. If you have time to spare, the Irving Nature Park is the perfect finish for the afternoon beach-combing, exploring the local geology or perhaps bird-watching.
The day would not be complete without dinner on the Market Square Boardwalk where you can appreciate free nightly entertainment throughout the summer. Enjoy some fresh local seafood at the Saint John Ale House, coupled with a Moosehead beer, brewed in Saint John at Canada’s oldest independent brewery.
Head to the Fundy Trail Parkway, in beautiful St. Martins – an ideal way to experience the spectacular Bay of Fundy coastline. Hike, bike or drive these beautiful trails, winding past pristine beaches, waterfalls and an exquisite shoreline. While in St. Martins be sure to take the time to explore the sandstone St. Martins sea caves, accessible during low tide. Grab some lunch at the Caves Restaurant – we recommend the chowder!
Get up close and personal with the Bay of Fundy, on a guided kayak or canoe adventure. Not ready to hop right in? Several operators also provide instruction.
