Top Spots for Winter Shots 📷

February 20, 2025

Winter in the Saint John Region transforms our already stunning landscapes into a breathtaking wonderland! Snow-covered streets, icy shorelines, and frosty forests create the perfect backdrop for stunning photography. Whether you're an experienced photographer, a selfie pro, or just love snapping shots on your phone, there's no shortage of picture-perfect locations to capture the magic.

To help you find the best winter scenes, we've rounded up some of the top spots in the region to take incredible winter photos. And if you need a little extra motivation, Fundy Winterfest is hosting its Frozen Moments Photo Contest and is still accepting submissions - so grab your camera, bundle up, and get snapping!

REMINDER: Be sure to pack the right gear and check the weather before heading out to capture your winter shots. Wear hats/mitts/gloves, bring ice grippers for your shoes, and be mindful of weather conditions; this will help keep you safe and make the most out of your photography adventure!

Black Beach

Tucked away in the Musquash Estuary just outside Saint John, Black Beach - appropriately named for the colour of its sand - is a go-to photo location in the winter (and summer)! Walk along the snowy shoreline and discover all this beautiful place has to offer. Looking for the best shot? Adventure on the Split Rock Trail for the best coastal views!

Uptown Saint John

Saint John is Canada's oldest incorporated city, so it's no surprise there is an abundance of historic architecture to be found in our uptown core. Whether it's wandering through King's Square, browsing along Prince William Street, or posing by the waterfront, there is no shortage of prime photo backdrops to be found. For the best winter shot, we recommend heading out during or after a light snowfall - the snow adds that special touch that can't be beat.

Fundy-St. Martins

Fundy-St. Martins is the gateway to the world's highest tides and offers stunning landscapes for winter photos. Capture shots of the Sea Caves covered in a dusting of snow, hike to the West Quaco lighthouse for an incredible birds-eye view, snap a shot of the boats sitting on the ocean floor - you'll find inspiration around every corner.

Kennebecasis and Saint John (Wolastoq) River

The Saint John Region is a region shaped by water, and home to multiple river systems. Explore the Kennebecasis River and discover a beautiful array of colourful ice fishing shacks. Or, adventure along the Saint John (Wolastoq) River - a National Historic Site - and find amazing scenery at Dominion Park. You might spy some ice shacks there, too!

Rockwood Park

One of Canada's largest municipal parks, Rockwood Park offers an expansive trail system to explore for the perfect backdrop. Whether you're hiking, skating, sledding, or snowshoeing, you won't be disappointed in the views you find. If you're in need of snowshoe rentals to help you out, be sure to visit our friends at Inside Out Nature Centre!
